Policy
We as a company believe in the inherent value of the enviornment and we want to make whatever difference we can by reducing our environmental impact.To achieve this, we have focused efforts on sustainability. To simple8 sustainability represents living within our means and, to us, it makes perfect sense in a world that is crowded, in a time when resources – in every sense of the word – are scarce.

Within sustainability, there’s a duel focus:

On climate change and the associated need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

And on minimizing environmental degradation on a more general level.

We have a list of environmental policies we adhere to, and our production of The Living Unknown Soldier, audited by Global Action Plan to have produced 3.4 tonnes CO2e (or 0.10 tonnes CO2e per performance per seat), was London’s first ecologically sustainable theatre production. Sustainability remains central to our work and is something we are only just beginning to learn about.

In 2011 we also conducted a carbon audit of our most recent production – The Four Stages of Cruelty – our carbon footprint was 2.5 tonnes CO2e or 0.09 tonnes CO2e per performance per seat. We are committed to continue monitoring and reducing the impacts of our office operations and of our productions.

Implementation
Our Environmental Policy is a statement of our commitment to help reduce the impact of our activities on the environment. The policy is supported by our environmental policies (outlined below), and an environmental action plan that specifies how the policy will be implemented, complete with targets, dates and a named person responsible for delivering it.

Environmental Policies:

1) We want to ensure the principles of ecological sustainability are applied throughout our work. Namely, we want to reduce what we use, to waste less of what we use, to re- use what we use and to use it for longer.

2) We aim to increase awareness of climate change, the need for sustainable practices and the benefits these practices can bring.

3) We believe sustainability can be a priority for arts practitioners, without compromising the integrity of artistic work.

4) We would like to form new partnerships and share information with these partners, both within and outside the world of theatre, to help develop radical ideas and solutions to environmental challenges.

5) We intend to use theatre and drama to develop educational material surrounding climate change and sustainability.

We will also work with our board of Trustees, associates, funders and patrons, audience and stakeholder network (e.g. suppliers), to ensure we consider and communicate the environmental impacts of our activities. For each financial year we will assess and report our environmental performance to stakeholders. This information will be used to update our action plan for the coming year.
